haitanya (Siva Balaji) and Shanti (Sindhu) are in constant focus. They are childhood friends and their trait is quarreling constantly over petty issues. But parents on either side hope they would marry one day. A third person named Siddarth (Dhanush), Shanti's office colleague, also loves her. When the parents ask Shanti to marry Chaitanya, she becomes adamant and says he is just a friend to her and nothing more. A situation is created then for her to stay away from Chaitanya. And this gap makes her feel for the first time that she is missing Chaitanya. She craves for his company and realizing that she cannot live without him, she travels back to her place and makes it known to Chaitanya. He too is a happy man. On his way to the bus stand to receive her, naxals shoot at a car in which a police officer is travelling. Some bullets hit Chaitanya and kill him instantly.
A shocked Shanti launches a legal war against the killers. Though the naxals express their apology, that won't satisfy her. She registers a case in a police station with the help of a journalist (Swapna). That is the time the government opens doors to naxalites for peace talks. She questions both the government and naxals how they are trying to escape from a crime they committed in murdering an innocent person, in the name of a social cause. There is a prolonged verbal drama, showing Shanti moving door to door fighting for justice. And the whole thing ends up as a kind of soul searching drama.
